Semi-Private & Group Riding Lessons
We believe that riding lessons can be greatly enhanced when shared with others. The opportunity to watch others at the same level adds a depth not received in private lessons. Riders qualify to join groups once they're trotting independently. Its a lot more fun learning along with others at the same level!
Horsemanship Clinics
Once a month, students have the option to attend a 2-hr Horsemanship Class where they gain hands-on experience in horse care, riding preparation, and practical horsemanship skills. This clinic helps students build independence and proficiency, preparing them for greater responsibilities.
Progress and Goals Sessions
At the beginning of each quarter session, we meet with students (and parents, if applicable). Together we assess their progress, set new goals, and provide personal feedback to help continuous progress.
Progress Tracking
Our levelled curriculum is managed on the Trello app. Each student has a personalized learning card with photos and videos documenting their journey. Students advance at their own pace, building a strong foundation before moving to the next level.
Celebrating Achievements
At Bascule Horsemanship Academy, we love celebrating our students’ milestones. As riders advance through curriculum levels, we recognize their dedication and hard work with a certificate and tassel. Alongside the personal Trello tacking, we keep a notice board either all the levels in the curriculum.
They are great communicators and love teaching with positive reinforcement and safety in mind. We have safe, beginner and intermediate friendly horses that we call our “professors”! Our program is designed to foster growth through a combination of structured lessons, clinics, progress tracking, and personalized goal-setting. All our instructors are SafeSport and Red Cross BLR/CPR certified.
One Hour Introductory Lessons are $150 and can be scheduled anytime.
Morning private half hour lessons available for riders with some experience may be available on an individual basis. Just message us!
Our focus is on students that will commit to a minimum once weekly program of lessons to further their progress in becoming a well rounded horseman. Like any sport, repetition under good coaching and with great horses is required to strengthen skills.

Julie Hagen
Julie has been teaching and training sport horses for 30+ years. She is a great communicator of feel, is patient and has an extensive knowledge of classical horsemanship and ground training. She enjoys sharing these skills with riders of all levels. She has recently focused on interviewing horses to join the Horsemanship Academy as Professors and looks forward to welcoming new riders into our program

Chris Knuth
Chris has her BA in Equine Studies & Business Management from Averett College, Danville, VA. Having competed up to Preliminary level on a cheeky off the track Thoroughbred, she brings a lot of experience to riders with more challenging steeds. She is available for full time teaching and we are very excited to have her leading the team. She lives with her family just a mile away from the farm driveway. Her students love her thoughtful, systematic approach. Chris has a flexible schedule so has room for new students and horses in training.

Eliza SanNicolas
Eliza first came to Bascule in 2014. She joined the training team full time in 2020 after earning a BA in Sociology from American University. She is a Level 2 certified instructor in both Eventing and Dressage through the American Riding Instructors Association. She competed her first horse through Training level eventing before switching to a dressage focus with her personal horse. She still loves to jump both in and out of the arena, happily schooling client horses over fences when they need a quiet, confident ride. Eliza also loves working with young horses; she started her gelding Koz as a unruly 3 year old. She has recently imported a fantastic gelding with a focus on showing up the levels. With her human pupils, Eliza focuses on correct basics as the foundation for furthering skills in the saddle. She frequents local events as well as dressage and jumper shows, emphasizing fun outings as a way to show off the skills honed at home while never losing sight of love for the horse.

Professor Ally
Dressage Schoolmaster
We are so fortunate to have Ally join the Horsemanship Academy as a Senior Professor. She is a 16.2 bay Hanoverian mare. She has spent the last several years in the broodmare band but has recently returned and is VERY popular with Adult Amateurs and tall Teens who wan to learn more about Dressage. She is beginner safe and very sweet and honest.

Professor Roxie
Cross Training Schoolmaster
Roxie comes from our foundation breeding as she's a Rotwing baby. She is a 16.2 chestnut Hanoverian cross mare. She spent her formative years with a good friend showing and hunting. Like all Rotwing's, she has an amazing jump and is teaching beginners and re-riders coming back to the sport.

Professor Fancy
Beginner MasterClass Trainer
Many beginners have started their careers learning to ride on Fancy. She is a 14.2 chestnut Arabian cross mare. She is a terrific teacher and likes to join in on our shows with her students!

Professor Bali
Next Step Trainer
This wonderfully kind mare is new to the program, but is a great horse for beginners who are ready to graduate. She is a 15 hand chestnut Quarter Horse mare. She is sensible to the jumps and very safe.

Professor Bubbles
Intermediate Adjunct Trainer
Bubbles is currently in continuing education to become a master professor. He is a 14.2 hand black Quarter Horse cross gelding. Our more advanced smaller riders love him as he's super personable!

Professor Fatima
On Hiatus From Program
Fatima is on loan from a long time client and is currently leased. She is a 15 hand bay Arabian cross mare.
