Bascule Farm, LLC, offers a terrific resident student program for riders who are serious about their education.   We are looking for students interested in learning to train horses from scratch.  Having good ground training skills makes for a
successful riding horse.

We cater to students who want a level of immersion in the business that you won’t get in a college setting, yet with the same level of structure to help reach your goals!

Students need to have their own horse.  If you don’t already own one, but are prepared for the financial expense of owning or full leasing, we will help you find a good match at the beginning of your program.   We have many years of matching horses and riders successfully!

2020 Resident Student Application

We are an active Eventing & Dressage oriented barn with a rich tradition in true classical equitation and horsemanship. There is no better way to launch a possible career in the industry than total immersion in a program like this.  Our experience has shown us that the typical working student position does not provide enough hours working directly with training to truly develop skills.  When you come here as a resident student, your riding and training come first.   Our structure, consistent training and benefits are rare in the industry. Perks include stipend, minimum of 4 lessons per week, ride or work with at least 3 horses per day, great housing, field board (stalls available) for your horse and lots of learning and competing opportunities!

Typical Day

Students do morning stables starting at 7am along with a team of 5 or 6 others, so you’re never “doing the barn” alone!  This includes cleaning stalls (sawdust bedding), hay, dump/scrub water buckets, sweep aisles and some other cleanup or beauty shop.   Of course, a little fun is always tossed in when you are with people who share your passion!

After lunch, you work with at least 3 horses each day, one being a mounted lesson on your own horse at least 4 days per week.  Once done riding, you wipe down your tack, put a load of laundry in and help turnout (summer) or turn in (winter).  We hope to have you out of the barns around 5:30.  Each week, students have a half day, then a full day off.  We try and only have one student on a break at a time so you get the apartment laundry to yourself!

Each student has their own private furnished bedroom and share a bath with one other.  There is a laundry room with a slop sink in the apartment.  Great room and fully stocked kitchen with island eating space for 6.  All utilities and DirecTV is included.  Caged pets are allowed but cats/dogs are not.  Students just don’t have time to properly care for a house pet as they have a horse.

How to apply

Start a rewarding career in professional horsemanship by joining our resident student program.  We ask for a full year commitment.  We save a summer spot for former resident students who come back for more training.  Foreign students with Visas are welcome as available depending on their Visa.  Download our Application above and send it, along with a riding video to

When you come to interview, we help you identify your short term goals (1 year) and lay out a program to help you get there.

Interviews are multiple days and are scheduled Tuesday/Wednesdays or Friday/Saturdays.
